Microsoft Secure Future Initiative: security at every layer
Since November 2023, Microsoft has been driving its Secure Future Initiative (SFI). This program aims to embed security at every level: technology, culture, and governance. More than 34,000 engineers are working to reduce risks and strengthen protection across products and services.
One clear example is phishing-resistant multifactor authentication. Today it protects 100% of production system accounts and 92% of employee productivity accounts. Identity verification for new employees has also been improved, reaching 99% coverage with video-based validation.
Resources for security professionals
This year, Microsoft has released new tools to help security teams protect their organizations, especially in this new era of artificial intelligence (AI). Among them is the SFI patterns and practices library, which offers practical guidance for implementing security at scale.
In addition, the Be Cybersmart kit is an excellent starting point. It includes articles on AI security, devices, identity spoofing, fraud, secure sign-in, and phishing. It is ideal for training teams and fostering a security culture.
Ongoing training and educational opportunities
Microsoft also offers learning paths, certifications, and technical documentation for those who want to go deeper into cybersecurity. For university students, there are programs such as the Cybersecurity Scholarships and Microsoft Elevate, which support talent development in this field.
The goal is clear: to foster a culture that prioritizes security and continuous learning, both among professionals and among future experts.
Success story: Franciscan Alliance
One inspiring example is Franciscan Alliance, a nonprofit healthcare organization in Indiana. Its focus on continuous, proactive education has strengthened cybersecurity awareness among its employees.
They run monthly phishing simulations and quarterly assessments. If an employee does not pass the assessment, they receive additional training instead of penalties. This reinforces a culture of learning. They also incorporate gamification elements to improve retention and publish monthly newsletters with practical tips.
During October, they step up their efforts with weekly editions and briefing sessions on emerging threats. They also collaborate with external partners and use Microsoft resources to enrich their programs.
AI and cybersecurity: a strategic challenge
Adopting artificial intelligence brings new opportunities, but also risks. That is why Microsoft is inviting business leaders to take part in the webinar “Trust in AI: Accelerate business growth with confidence.” This event will address how to build trust in AI and protect digital environments.
In addition, on October 21, 2025, at the New York Stock Exchange, the panel “Cybersecurity and AI: strategic risk and competitive advantage” will be held, moderated by Sarah Bird, Chief Product Officer of Responsible AI at Microsoft. Experts will discuss real cases, regulations, and how to integrate AI securely.
